Dream Ticket: The Dirtbombs; The Fleshtones; Titus Andronicus; The Mighty Fine

Maxwell's on July 11th went from your typical mostly annual Dirtbombs thing to a full blown major event with the addition of the Fleshtones and the late breaking add of Titus Andronicus and the Mighty Fine.

The Dirtbombs are in Europe now and returning to play the NYC area that weekend (Fort Greene Park the day after Hoboken, and Asbury Lanes the day after that). Then they are off on that tour with Spiritualized (which includes New York and Philly dates).
Titus Andronicus is about to kick off a ton of shows in the area with their show at at the Knitting Factory tomorrow night. They are also going on a big cross-country tour.

Dream Ticket: The Raconteurs and the Black Lips

Well...is it really a dream ticket? The Black Lips, much beloved by the hipsterverse for the last year, really only have about 4 or 5 good songs and the rest is wasted by their sloppiness and general lack of class. The Raconteurs are of course the Raconteurs but just a couple posts below it was established just how yucky the new LP is. And the show is at Terminal 5, the place to be that also happens to have awful acoustics. So really...dream ticket?

Yeah dream ticket. Jack White is going to wail on the guitar. The Lips are going to have fun. The crowd should have fun. Dream ticket it is.

Terminal 5, May 30

Update: Dream Ticket? No. 40 dollars? 40 dollars (pre-fees mind you) to see the Raconteurs? At Terminal 5? Are you kidding me?

Dream Ticket: The Dirtbombs and the BellRays; MySpace Update

Unfortunately for us Yanks, it's only happening - as of right now - on March 11th in Auckland. The Datsuns, no slouches themselves, are also on the bill.

It has been a Pennypacker dream (before there was even a Pennypacker) to see the Dirtbombs and the BellRays on the same bill. There is arguably not a better matched pair of bands. It would be, at least for this blog, the Dream Ticket to end all dream tickets. Forget Police and Costello, R.E.M. with Modest Mouse and the National, Obama and Clinton. This is it.

Help start the campaign to get the BellRays attached to either some leg of the U.S./Canadian upcoming tour or to get a rain check for the future. Pennypacker knows that the west coast, just as much as the east coast, would want to see this happen.

And on a side note, this is the last all-out rock pairing Pennypacker would want to see for the Dirtbombs. Ideally, it is time to mix it up. Mr. Stoltz certainly seems to be a real difference from the typical Dirtbombs openers but let's go a step further. Let's tap into Mick's love for dance and techno music. Obviously this is blog bias here but Dirtbombs/Hot Chip? Dirtbombs would have to open there but how about Dirtbombs with the Rapture? Ol' Pennypacker wagers the Dirtbombs could headline the Bowery or the Music Hall of Williamsburg with the Rapture opening. It's all just ideas...

Meanwhile, the MySpace page has been restored. Hopefully, for good. The content will be restored over the long weekend.

The most local date right now is Jones Beach on June 14th. Then down in Philly at the Mann Center on the 18th. A Gotham date is set for the 19th, venue TBA.

If the National aren't huge after this, Pennypacker will eat his newest fedora.

Dream Ticket: HOLD STEADY AND ART BRUT TO ROCK NEW YORK LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS

This is like...the Stones and the Who getting together in '65...you know, not really, but in a relative, micro-sort-of-way...right? Right? Oh come on, it's the Hold Steady and Art Brut together. Isn't that good enough?

In what will potentially be the biggest party show of the year (though never count out those Dirtbombs and Ween), the Hold Steady and Art Brut will play a double bill, with the 1990's opening up, at Terminal 5, on Wed Nov 21, the culmination of a decent sized tour together. Pre-Sale tickets go on sale in 2 days.

This just made Terminal 5 the venue of the year...and the place hasn't even opened up yet.
