Dylan's New Video

I made a switch on my MySpace page with the video for this week's Artist of the Week, Bob Dylan. Here is the new video for "When The Deal Goes Down", directed by Bennett Miller (Capote) and starring current It Girl Scarlett Johaanson. You know, I understood her sudden popularity as both an actress and a looker after Lost In Translation but ever since then, it's been a bit too much.

Blue Republic's My Space Artist of the Week: Bob Dylan

Yeah I don't really know who this guy is but he has a new album out this week, Modern Times, and maybe this little bit on my part will help get his name out there.

Watch a performance of "Maggie's Farm" from the 1965 Newport Folk Festival on my page, then go Zim's official page for some more info and his official site, which is arguably one of the best artist websites out there. It has the most comprehensive discography with lyrics database, as well as a listing of the never ending tour.

Blue Republic's My Space Band of the Week: Sunshine Doray

A fine two-piece that keeps itself in good company, the pop soulful sounds of Detroit's Sunshine Doray are perfect for that Sunday morning layabout, or a romantic night out with your loved one, or even some deep-in-thought alone time.

Perfection

X; Rollins Band; The Riverboat Gamblers
@Nokia Theater Times Square
New York, NY - August 16, 2006

X is perfect. Any questions? Rollins Band is not my personal cup of tea despite my immense respect of Henry Rollins. But if you like his music in addition to his words, then you wouldn't have been disappointed. The day after I saw the openers, the Riverboat Gamblers, I read they were on Spin Magazine's Top 25 live acts. While this Texas hard rock band does put its collective heart out, the songs all sound the same and the lead singer's lame antics and Iggy Pop crowd-mingling ripoff got old fast.

Blue Republic's My Space Band of the Week: X

If you don't know who X are, there isn't much I can say. Simply stated, they are one of the greatest bands to ever roam the Earth. If that's not enough incentive to learn what you may not already know, then you can't be helped. If you live in the Northeast, this week could be your lucky break: the band arrives as part of its tour, including a stop at the Nokia Theater in Times Square on Wednesday night.

Listen to "Because I Do" from X's third album, Under the Big Black Sun, on my page, before hearing other classics on their page. Also on their page is a hell of a video from 1983, when the band played twice (!) on Late Night with David Letterman. Also, of course, go to the official site.

Sorry I didn't do this yesterday, I had some tech problems. So all that's missing is last night's Ziggy Marley show.
Tonight is a sad night - the last ever New York show of Sleater-Kinney. It's all sold out. I will be at a friend's house watching old wrestling clips instead. Webster Hall will be the site of this last hurrah.
